A 99th-minute penalty goal by substitute Shinkangwa Gentrix proved enough for the Harambee Starlets of Kenya as they overpowered the Black Queens of Ghana in the 2020 Tokyo qualifiers played at the Nairobi international stadium this afternoon.

Both teams went into the game without any goals from the 1st leg played at the Accra sports stadium last Friday as that game ended goalless.

Ghana started off the game on a good note but failed to make use of the few decent chances that came their way and so did the home side who were buoyed by their fans.

The game failed to produce any goal in the 90 minutes an action that saw both teams plunge into extra time.

Kenya managed to break the deadlock 9 minutes into the first half of extra time after Justice Tweneboah handled the ball in Ghana’s penalty box.

Shinkangwa Gentrix stepped up to take the penalty and coolly sent Ghana goalkeeper Fafali the wrong way to score the goal, an action that later turned out to be the match-winner.

Kenya progress to the next stage of the 2020 Tokyo qualifiers 1-0 on aggregate at the expense of coach Mercy Tagoe’s side who have themselves to blame after that poor showing in the first leg at the Accra sports stadium.
