Senegal has won the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations after beating Ghana 3-1 in a penalty shootout following 120 minutes of football that ended 1-1 at Stade Lat Dior in Thies, Senegal, on Sunday 13 October.
After 108 minutes the deadlock was broken by Youssouph Badji of Senegal. Ghana responded two minutes later with the equalizer through striker Joseph Esso.
However, during the penalty shootout, Ghana woefully failed, losing their first two kicks as Augustine Okran and Fatawu Mohammed missed.
Justice Blay failed to convert his kick and action that saw the Senegalese emerge winners after expertly scoring their three kicks.
This is the first time Senegal has won the Competition.
